To Be Heard

ove me when I least deserve it, because that is when I need it the most.
-Swedish Proverb-

As I think back over 2016  with all the amazing families with whom I have worked I am reminded of a theme that was prevalent with so many children as well as adults.

Being heard.

Being heard is someone taking a moment to hear what is being said while not moving on or solving the problem. It is about just being with the words and pausing. It is a moment when judgment is removed, and a child does not need to scream or yell anymore to be heard. A moment when you look into your child’s eyes, touch them gently and repeat what they are saying. Hearing them.

Attention is focused on them for a few minutes when they need it the most. “Love me when I least deserve it, because that is when I need it the most”. As we close out 2016 and look towards 2017 try to hear those around you, especially our little ones who so desperately need to know they have a voice and that their voice has value.
